Behind the Pocket Desert Series

The Pocket Desert Series started with a question: what if you could hold a desert in your pocket?

Not a literal handful of sand — but the feeling of it. The quiet. The strange little creatures that somehow thrive out there. We wanted to make something small enough to sit on a shelf but detailed enough to feel like its own world.

How We Made Them

Each creature is crocheted by hand — no patterns purchased, no shortcuts. We sketched dozens of desert critters in a notebook, argued over which ones had the most personality, and then figured out how to translate loose ink drawings into yarn and stuffing.

The tricky part wasn't the crochet. It was getting the proportions right at pocket scale. A cactus wren that's too round looks like a tennis ball. A horned lizard that's too flat looks like a coaster. We went through a lot of prototypes.

The Character Cards

Every creature ships with a collectible illustrated card — hand-designed artwork printed on recycled paper with UV resin accents. The cards describe each critter's personality and desert habitat. Think field guide meets trading card meets tiny art print.

We wanted the unboxing to feel like discovering a specimen in an inventor's cabinet. The card makes it collectible. The creature makes it personal.

What's In the Mix

  • Hand-dyed and sustainably sourced yarn
  • Recycled paper card stock
  • UV resin printed details and accents
  • A lot of late nights and "just one more prototype"

What's Cooking Next

We're already sketching the next series. Different landscape, different creatures, same obsessive process. Can't say much yet — but if you liked the desert, you'll like where we're headed.
